Ranji Trophy 2024 Quarterfinal: Musheer Khan hits maiden double century, puts Mumbai in command against Baroda
Mumbai’s Musheer Khan was all over Baroda when the First-Class debutant hit a double ton, and in effect helped his side dominate proceedings during the Ranji Trophy 2024 quarterfinals at BKC Ground last weekend.
Musheer, who batted at number three, excelled with the bat hitting eighteen boundaries on his way to two hundred runs. This partnership was Musheer’s second century of the season and came after he partnered with Hardik Tamore to take Mumbai from a troubled 142 for five to 323 for six before finally being dismissed while trying to clear Amit Sheth whose length ball eventually got him caught behind by Smit Patel.
His maturity beyond his years was evident as he took control from this point on and ensured that Mumbai did not collapse further.
Musheer Khan shone in this test as a result of several players’ absence such as captain Rahane, Bhupen Lalwani and Prithvi Shaw but delivered above expectations with an excellent performance converting it into a mammoth knock.
Before this match-winning innings, Musheer had earlier starred as India’s second highest run-getter during the U-19 World Cup played in South Africa where he amassed 360 runs at an average of 60.
The Khan family had reason to celebrate as Musheer's remarkable achievement followed closely on the heels of Sarfaraz Khan's Test debut for India against England in Rajkot. Musheer's stellar batting display in the Ranji Trophy further underscored the burgeoning talent within the family, earning him widespread acclaim and admiration.
